Import a bank statement into QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online can't read a PDF statement, but it imports a .qbo (Web Connect) or CSV file in a couple of minutes. Here's the whole route from PDF to the For review tab.

Free · no signup · up to 10 pages per statement · files are never stored
Downloaded (text-based) statements are converted right in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer. Try it with your Wi-Fi off. Scanned statements need online processing, and we ask first.
Step by step
Use the .qbo file if you can: QuickBooks reads the dates and amounts itself, nothing to map. The QuickBooks Online CSV (Date, Description, Amount) works too, but you match the columns by hand.
- 1
Convert the PDF
Upload the statement above, check the rows against the page, pick “QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo)” (or “QuickBooks Online (CSV)”) and download.
- 2
Open Bank transactions
In QuickBooks Online go to Transactions, then Bank transactions (in some accounts it's under Banking).
- 3
Choose Upload from file
Click the arrow next to Link account (or Update) and choose Upload from file.
- 4
Select the file
Drag in the .qbo or .csv you downloaded, then Continue.
- 5
Pick the QuickBooks account
Choose which bank or credit card account in QuickBooks the transactions belong to. For a CSV, match the columns: Date, Description and Amount (one column), and the date format you downloaded.
- 6
Review and add
The transactions appear under For review. Categorize or match each one, then Add or Confirm, as you would with a bank feed.
QuickBooks Online moves its menus now and then; if a name above has changed, look for the import or upload option on the bank account.
Good to know
- Uploading the same statement twice? A .qbo file gives every transaction a stable ID, so QuickBooks skips the ones it has already imported.
- A bank feed only goes back so far when you first connect it; uploading statements is how you bring in older months.
- For a credit card, choose the credit card account in QuickBooks: charges come in as expenses and payments as credits.
- If QuickBooks says the file is from an unsupported bank, convert again as .qbo; the bank ID we use is one QuickBooks accepts.
