Import a bank statement into QuickBooks Desktop

QuickBooks Desktop imports statements as Web Connect (.qbo) files. Convert the PDF to .qbo, then bring it in through the Bank Feeds Center.

Free · no signup · up to 10 pages per statement · files are never stored

Downloaded (text-based) statements are converted right in your browser, so the file never leaves your computer. Try it with your Wi-Fi off. Scanned statements need online processing, and we ask first.

Step by step

QuickBooks Desktop only imports .qbo files, not CSV, for bank transactions.

  1. 1

    Convert the PDF

Upload the statement above, check the rows, pick “QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo)” and download.

  2. 2

    Open the import

In QuickBooks Desktop choose File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files.

  3. 3

    Select the file

Pick the .qbo file you downloaded.

  4. 4

    Link the account

QuickBooks asks which account the file is for: choose an existing bank or credit card account (or create one).

  5. 5

    Review in Bank Feeds

Open Banking → Bank Feeds → Bank Feeds Center, select the account and match or add the downloaded transactions.

QuickBooks Desktop moves its menus now and then; if a name above has changed, look for the import or upload option on the bank account.

Good to know

  • If QuickBooks Desktop rejects the file, it doesn't recognise the bank ID in it. Leave the bank ID at 3000 (the default here) unless your accountant tells you otherwise.
  • Each transaction carries a stable ID, so importing an overlapping statement won't create duplicates.
