What gets checked
Missing months
Statements for the same account are lined up by period. Any stretch of dates no statement covers is listed, for example 01 Mar – 31 Mar.
Missing pages
Most banks print “Page 2 of 5” on every page. If the numbering shows a page isn't in the file, you're told exactly which one.
Balances that don't carry over
Each statement's closing balance should equal the next one's opening balance. A difference usually means something in between is missing.
Overlaps
Two statements covering the same dates usually means the same transactions twice. Overlaps are flagged before they reach your books.
Questions
- Who is this for?
- Bookkeepers and accountants collecting a year of statements from a client, anyone preparing a mortgage or loan application that asks for consecutive months with all pages, and anyone catching up on their own books.
- What do I get at the end?
- A coverage table for each account, a list of anything to check, and one combined Excel file with every transaction tagged by its source statement. The Excel file includes the same checks on its Summary sheet.
- What if my bank doesn't print page numbers?
- The missing-pages check needs the “Page X of Y” numbering. Without it, the month, balance and overlap checks still work.
- Is it free?
- Yes. There's no account to create, and your files are processed in memory and never stored.
